Cody Johnson’s Tear-Jerking Father-Daughter Song
The singer released a new song, “C’mon Cowgirl,” on his new album. The song features a father singing about his daughter growing up as he watches her life.
“C’mon Cowgirl” starts with the daughter being young and going to the first grade and ends with her having a daughter of her own.
The opening line is:
“Come on, cowgirl, climb on in this truck
Yeah, I know you don’t wanna go, but first grade ain’t that tough”
As the song continues, his daughter grows, and he expresses how hard it is to let her move on—a common feeling that I am sure all good fathers have felt.
“The first time that I held you, I swore I’d never hold you back
But the older that you get, the more I hate the sound of that
‘Cause anywhere you ever go and everythin’ you do
You’ll never meet a cowboy that loves you likе I do”
The sweet song ends with his daughter getting married and creating a family of her own.
“Come on, cowgirl, they’re callin’ for the bride
I might be the one to give you away, but I’m always by your side
Come on, cowgirl, this ultrasound looks great
And if she’s anythin’ like her momma is baby, I can’t wait”
