In promo videos leading up to the event, Lainey said that “everyone’s favorite country stars” will be in attendance, and the show will have an “unforgettable opening.”

And she was right! She delivered a standout opening medley where she covered other artists’ iconic songs. Other standout performances include Chris Stapleton’s, Zach Top’s, and Luke Combs’.

Vocal Duo Of The Year Award Given Out

While the performances have been incredible, what we’re really here for are the awards. The award for Vocal Duo of the Year is given to the best country music duo of the year.

The nominees for Vocal Group of the Year are:

  • Brooks & Dunn
  • Brothers Osborne
  • Dan + Shay
  • Maddie & Tae
  • The War and Treaty

Brooks & Dunn have won this award 15 times between the years 1992-2024, while Brothers Osborne have taken it home six times and Dan + Shay have won it twice.

And the award goes to…Brooks & Dunn!

In their speech, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn expressed disbelief that they’re still around and winning awards after all these years. They’ve now won Vocal Duo of the Year 16 times, and have a total of 20 CMA wins to their names! So far, that makes them the most-awarded artist in CMA history, but Chris Stapleton still stands the chance to break that record tonight.

Congratulations to them on their big win!
