The 2019 ACM Awards are just a couple weeks away, and they have already handed out three big awards.
The Reba McEntire-hosted event will take place on Sunday, April 7 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, but some artists will already show up as winners!
Nominations were announced on February 20 when McEntire stopped by CBS This Morning to reveal them.
Since there are so many categories, she announced the nominations in different segments, and Entertainment Tonight even helped by revealing the categories for New Male Artist of the Year, New Female Artist of the Year, New Duo or Group of the Year, Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Video of the Year, and Music Event of the Year.
Like they have in the past, the ACM Awards announced the winners of New Male Artist of the Year, New Female Artist of the Year, and New Duo or Group of the Year prior to the awards show. This year, Carrie Underwood helped by calling the winner of New Duo or Group of the Year, and luckily, it was all caught on camera!
The nominees for New Duo or Group of the Year were:
High Valley
LANCO
Runaway June
“Do you like good news?” Underwood asked the five-member band.
“We do!” they replied.
After some suspense, she finally said, “Well, you’re about to get some…well, congratulations, first and foremost, for the ACM New Group of the Year.”
Their jaws dropped, and they immediately began cheering in excitement. They thanked her for the call and while Underwood was signing off the phone call, she told them that she is excited to see them in Vegas to congratulate them in person.
High Valley is a duo and Runaway June is a trio, so that means that LANCO won the award!
Luke Combs and Ashley McBryde each won New Male Artist of the Year and New Female Artist of the Year, respectively and also received calls from Underwood.
Got some pretty awesome news yesterday… Thanks for the call, @carrieunderwood! This is a dream come true and I'm so thankful for all of you. Can't wait for the @ACMawards! pic.twitter.com/0Idtocebkn

Like McBryde and Combs, LANCO shared the video on social media, writing, “We can’t even begin to describe how truly honored we our to win an ACM award for new group of the year. Thank you to every person that has believed in us and made this crazy journey possible. From our fans, to our team, to our families this is not possible without you.”
The band came on the scene in 2016 with the single “Long Live Tonight” and notched their first number one with the 2017 single “Greatest Love Story,” followed by their 2018 single “Born to Love You,” which peaked at number 19 on the charts.
