Several days ago, Carrie Underwood sent her fans into a frenzy after posting a snippet of her brand new song on social media. Called “The Champion,” Underwood teased that the song will be used as the anthem for the upcoming Super Bowl LII.
Since she is the voice for the Sunday Night Football song “Oh Sunday Night,” it seemed fitting that the NFL asked her to co-write a song specifically for the 2018 Super Bowl game with Ludacris, Brett James and Chris DeStefano. Luckily, she had her own way to see if the song was an actual sports anthem – she let her professional hockey player husband Mike Fisher listen to it!
“My husband loved it,” Underwood told Variety last year. “He would listen to it before playoff games. He was like ‘I want everyone to hear it!’ and I had to tell him, ‘You can’t do that. You can’t play it in the locker room. I’m sorry.’ But that was a good indicator that we were on the right track.”
After the NFL previewed the song at halftime of the wild card game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Atlanta Falcons on Jan. 6, fan reception was incredible. People couldn’t wait to hear the whole song and after waiting patiently for what feels like forever, Underwood has released the full version!
It features rapper Ludacris, which we did not know before, and a sing-or-scream-along worthy chorus. You can find those lyrics below.
“I am invincible, unbreakable, unstoppable, unshakeable
They knock me down, I get up again
I am the champion
You’re gonna know my name
You can’t hurt me now
I can’t feel the pain
I was made for this
I was born to win
I am the champion.”
From the response on the YouTube video, which as of press time currently the #22 trending video – and rising, people are loving this new track. While this is not a country song, it will be used for the Super Bowl and the upcoming Winter Olympics.
After just a few listens, you’ll be singing along in no time – it’s very catchy! Watch the lyric video for Underwood’s anthem “The Champion” below.
