Carrie Underwood was one of many artists who took to the stage during the CMA Awards on Wednesday (November 9). She participated in the opening tribute to Loretta Lynn, was part of an ensemble honoring Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Alan Jackson, and also had a solo performance.

For her solo, Underwood sang her newest single, “Hate My Heart.”

“Hate My Heart” is the second single off of Underwood’s latest album, Denim & Rhinestones. The song was released as a single on October 31 and its accompanying music video was released on November 2.

Since “Hate My Heart” was just released as a single, many country fans heard it for the first time during the CMA Awards.

Underwood performed while wearing a black outfit with sparkly silver and gold fringe. Fittingly, she delivered her performance in front of a set piece resembling a giant heart. Her performance also involved pyrotechnics, making for a truly “fiery” spectacle!
