Cancer Patient Sings “O Holy Night” Duet With Nurse During Chemo

Penn Pennington has been sharing his talent in the bars in downtown Nashville for more than 30 years, but the rest of the world is getting their chance to hear the musician after a video of him singing with a nurse went viral.

Pennington is undergoing treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s Double-Hit Lymphoma at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center in Nashville. When his nurse, Alex, heard that he was a musician, she brought him her own guitar so that he could play during his chemotherapy treatments. During a visit with Pennington, Alex joined him for a heartwarming duet of a Christmas classic.

Video captured by Penn’s daughter, Brandi Mykle Leath, shows the patient in his hospital bed with a guitar in hand. He starts to play the introduction then Alex begins to sing. Penn joins in with harmony making for a breathtaking duet that is sure to fill you with Christmas spirit. Leath shared the video to social media where it quickly went viral.

“She found out he was a guitar player and promised to bring in her guitar the next day,” Penn’s daughter told local media. “She left the guitar in his room for him to play and then joined him in a little jam session. It was amazing and just so uplifting. My dad said it was an escape for him in that moment.”

Leath also praised Alex saying that she has treated her dad like family from the moment she walked into his hospital room. Not only is Alex a great nurse but she’s also a great singer!
