In today’s society, there are many things to fear, so when a young girl’s terrified screams about an insect were heard in a subway station, people panicked.

It was the last day for Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter tour in Atlanta, Georgia, when chaos broke out.

As fans were leaving the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and took the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority a frightened mob broke out.

The incident took place at the Vine City station and ended in mass injuries.

11 Injured Due To An Escalator Malfunctioning

A MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) gave a statement about the incident to Atlanta News First and said,

“The initial reports were that a woman was scared of an insect and screamed and ran away from it, and others panicked not knowing what was happening.”

It was later confirmed that it was a 10-year-old girl who was screaming, according to authorities.

Stephany Fisher, Sr. Director of Communications for MARTA, told PEOPLE.

“MARTA Police on scene said there was a scream, and witnesses said the person who screamed was reacting to an insect. I believe there’s also video on TikTok of a woman claiming it was a 10-year-old relative who screamed when she saw a bug.”

According to Fisher, the mass panic caused a malfunction on the escalator itself.

“A person began screaming and running, causing a stampede on the escalator that caused it to temporarily speed up and then stop suddenly.”

She continued,

“Just after midnight on Tuesday, July 15, 11 people leaving the Beyoncé concert at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta were injured on an escalator at Vine City Station. One person suffered a broken ankle, seven people were transported to the hospital with cuts and scrapes, and one person declined transport. Two people requested medical assistance after reaching their destinations.”
