Country legend Reba McEntire will be kicking off Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Nevada as the national anthem performer.
In an announcement on social media, Roc Nation – who has a partnership with the NFL on music entertainment – revealed the three singers who will be taking the stage field prior to the Super Bowl.
None other than Reba McEntire will be singing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” while Post Malone will perform “America The Beautiful.” Andra Day will round out the pregame lineup with “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” which is often referred to as “The Black National Anthem,” according to the NAACP.
McEntire herself shared the news on her socials, writing, “I’m honored to be part of something as big and historic as the Super Bowl coming to Las Vegas for the first time!”
In addition, all performances will have American Sign Language interpreters. Daniel Durant, who co-starred in the Academy Award-winning film CODA, is performing the national anthem alongside McEntire. Anjel Piñero, a model and dancer, will be signing “American the Beautiful,” while Shaheem Sanchez – actor and choreographer – will sign “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
McEntire is no stranger to Las Vegas, having had two different residencies over the years.
She had her own, titled Key to the Heart, from 2006-2007. And from 2015-2021, the legend had a joint residency with Brooks & Dunn titled Together In Vegas.
Additionally, this will not be McEntire’s first time singing the national anthem.
In fact, that’s exactly how she got her start. One year into college, McEntire had the opportunity to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City, a gig she had for a few years until she was discovered by country singer Red Steagall.
She got a record deal shortly after meeting with Steagall and the rest is history!
We can’t wait to watch her perform at the Super Bowl! Will you be tuning in?
