Lainey Wilson & Brandon Lake Team Up To Share The Message Of Jesus
Leading Christian artist Brandon Lake first previewed a poignant song written with Lainey Wilson and Nashville-based songwriters Emily Weisband and Luke Laird, back in November. Titled “The Jesus I Know Now,” the message was inspired by “people’s experience getting taught a different Jesus than the one we know now.”
In March, Lake shared the exciting news that he had recorded the song with the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year, and it would be released on Good Friday (April 3rd). In a teaser video, the artists can be heard reflecting on the song’s message.
“People who don’t follow God anymore, they all have a story,” says Wilson.
Brandon Lake’s Country Collaborations
While Brandon Lake has worked adjacent to country artists in the past, his music has found new reach through his recent partnerships with leaders in the genre.
In early 2025, Lake released a duet version of “Hard Fought Hallelujah” with Jelly Roll that caught national attention. They have performed the song for major audiences, including the Grand Ole Opry, American Idol, Stagecoach, and CMA Fest.
His growing list of country music collaborators includes Bailey Zimmerman, Gabby Barrett, Cody Johnson, and now, Lainey Wilson. Additionally, he hosted a faith-based songwriters retreat with dozens of musicians, including HARDY, Thomas Rhett, Russell Dickerson, Dan + Shay, Tyler Hubbard, and more.

Listen To “The Jesus I Know Now”
Brandon Lake and Lainey Wilson’s moving new duet was released to all platforms on Friday, April 3rd. Perfectly timed ahead of the easter holiday, the anthem paints a powerful picture of the character of Jesus. The chorus declares:
“The Jesus I know now ain’t shaking a fist, ain’t raising a brow. The Jesus I know know ain’t running away from a party crowd. Found a friend who hangs with the misfits, listens, forgives, then forgives again. Can’t believe I was missing out on the Jesus I know now.”
Along with the release, Lake wrote:
“We pray this song meets you right where you are.”
