Blake Shelton Says He Regrets The Tattoo He Got Twenty Years Ago
Everyone makes mistakes, even country superstars like Blake Shelton. But unfortunately for him, one of his biggest regrets is something he’ll have to live with forever.
While sitting down for an interview with CMT, Shelton shared a story about getting a tattoo when he was younger. According to the eight-time Grammy nominee, it’s a decision he instantly regretted.
“You know, they say that tattoos are addictive,” Shelton said, pointing to the tattoo on his left forearm.
“I got this tattoo about 20 years ago, and decided it was, in the moment, one of the worst mistakes of my life, and I’m never doing that again,” he added. “And I stuck to that.”
The infamous tattoo in question features two barbed wire bands wrapping around his arm, with several deer tracks in between.
Shelton has laughed off his less-than-favorable ink before as well. Back in 2013, when he was still a returning coach on The Voice, he sat down with his then-co-star Adam Levine for an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Since Levine is covered in tattoos, the conversation naturally turned to body art. When Shelton’s tattoo came up, Oprah asked about the meaning behind his choice.
“It doesn’t mean crap, Oprah,” Shelton joked. “I’m a country guy from Oklahoma and I thought, ‘I’ll get some deer tracks going around my arm.'”
It also turns out that the person who gave Shelton the tattoo might not have been the most qualified to do so.
“He didn’t know how to make a deer track and I didn’t either,” Shelton added. [So] I drew him one…what I thought it looked like…and he just took that and copied it here. So I actually drew that crap.”
Needless to say, if the “Texas” singer ever decides to change his mind and get another tattoo, he’ll likely put a lot more thought into it this time.
