From the halls of an Indiana middle school to the America’s Got Talent stage, Richard Goodall’s journey has been a remarkable one.
Richard Goodall’s America’s Got Talent Journey
Audition and Golden Buzzer
The first time Richard Goodall took the AGT stage, he stunned the audience with a powerful rendition of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” The judges were floored by Goodall’s performance, and even Simon Cowell, who is notoriously hard to please, sang his praises.
The humble school janitor was rewarded with a Golden Buzzer from Heidi Klum. Each judge only has the ability to hit the Golden Buzzer twice during the season, propelling the recipient straight to the live quarterfinal shows.
Quarterfinals – “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You”
Nearly three months after his initial audition, Goodall returned to the AGT stage and reminded viewers just why he earned a fast pass to the live shows. The 55-year-old sang “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You” by Michael Bolton in honor of his fiance Angie.
The couple shared that Angie suffered a heart attack on the day that the audition initially aired and had since undergone surgery as a result. Goodall said:
“I have no idea how I would live without her… Tonight, this song is for her.”
Ultimately, the emotional performance earned him a spot in the next round of competition. Watch it below!
Semifinals – “Eye Of The Tiger”
Just last week, the singing janitor was one of twelve hopeful contestants who performed during the show’s semifinals. He delivered an engaging performance of Survivor’s 1982 hit “Eye Of The Tiger,” which earned him a standing ovation from the judges. Even Simon Cowell admitted:
“It was the last song in the world I expected you to sing… But it doesn’t matter because people love you.”
During the results show the following night, it was revealed that Goodall would be one of the six contestants advancing to the finals to compete for the title and a $1 million prize!
