Keyla Richardson Blows Everyone’s Minds With Her Latest Idol Performance
The American Idol judges were left speechless when contestant Keyla Richardson took the stage to perform The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends.”
On Monday night (March 23), American Idol returned to Hawaii as the second half of the Top 20 contestants performed, each hoping to prove they deserve a spot in the next round, where only 14 will move forward.
One of the biggest moments of the night came from Keyla Richardson, whose performance left judge Lionel Richie calling it the best he’s ever seen on the show.

In a video package ahead of her performance, Keyla opened up about the meaning behind her song choice. She dedicated it to the people God has placed in her life to guide her on the right path.
Guest Advisors Keke Palmer and Brad Paisley were also there, watching as she worked through her rehearsal. That moment alone was enough to bring Keke to tears.
“That voice was ancestral, girl,” Keke said. “What you’re doing is more than just singing. You’re embodying spirit through song.”
Brad also chimed in, dubbing Keyla a “perfect singer.”
What Did The Judges Says About Keyla’s Performance?
As soon as Keyla began to sing, the crowd went wild. People were cheering, screaming, and just blown away by what they were seeing.
Her voice was incredible, hitting high notes and a range you don’t hear every day. Even Lionel Richie compared her to legends like Janis Joplin and Tina Turner.
“I have never. I have never ever! I’ve been on American Idol since I was that big. I have never had any contestant walk out on this stage and tear the place up,” Lionel said, pacing back and forth out of disbelief.
“The place got blown up,” he continued. “That Janis Joplin sounding, Tina Turner sounding. I don’t know who you are, but that right there was the greatest performance I have ever seen on this stage…That was ridiculous.”
Keke Palmer was also there to watch Keyla’s performance and had a few words to share of her own.
“Lionel had to bring me back to life. He had to resuscitate me up in the place,” the guest advisor and judge exclaimed. “The last time I’ve seen somebody make me feel like this and get people turned up like this, her name was Fantasia Barrino. And she won American Idol.”
Judge Carrie Underwood also praised Keyla, saying how special her voice and performance were.
“You don’t think about what you’re doing as it’s happening. It just flows out of you,” she said. “You were in the moment. You were having fun with the audience. It was from the heavens to Keyla and then out to us. It was spectacular.”
“You’re just here to let what God has given you come out,” judge Luke Bryan added.
Fans of the show get to vote for who moves on to the Top 14. The results will be revealed at the start of “Songs of Faith” night on March 30. This will also be the first live show of the season.
By the end of the episode, two contestants will be sent home, and the Top 12 will be decided.
