When Gabby Barrett first graced the American Idol screen, she wasn’t shy about her love for Season 4 champion Carrie Underwood.

This is the biggest thing,” she told the judges during her audition. “American Idol has always been the golden show. It’s what was on TV growing up. Carrie Underwood’s my idol. I love her…she’s beautiful.

She then dove right into her audition song, “Good Girl” by Carrie Underwood.

While the judges weren’t huge fans of her Underwood cover, they fell in love with her take on the gospel song “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” and sent her through to the next round. She continued to wow the judges, and the audience, during the next several weeks of competition with covers of Maren Morris’ “My Church,” “Stay” – which she happened to perform with Sugarland – and “I Hope You Dance,” just to name a few.

All eyes were on Barrett when it came time to decide the Top 5, seeing as the five remaining contestants would travel to Nashville to be mentored by none other than her idol, Carrie Underwood.

She made it through, along with Maddie Poppe, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Cade Foehner, and Michael J. Woodward, and was able to meet, and sing with, the person who inspires her the most.

We only got to see a short clip of the two of them together when the episode aired, but thankfully, Barrett just released a video on her YouTube channel of them singing Underwood’s 2008 hit “Last Name” together, which Barrett performed on the show later that week.

Sitting in the middle of the iconic Bluebird Cafe, the two blonde bombshells traded off lines of the song that had Barrett giggling in awe at some points during the duet. “Last Name” is already an attitude-packed song, but the combination of Barrett and Underwood’s powerful vocals made it sassier than we’ve ever heard or seen it before!
