The Voice returned earlier this week on Monday, February 23, and fans are already seeing some fierce competition.
Season 29, dubbed “Battle of Champions,” has signed on former coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine to reclaim their spots in the iconic red chairs.
Fans haven’t seen the trio together since 2019. Now, they’re back and ready to prove who’s truly the ultimate champion coach.
A new season means a fresh start, and for some of the coaches, it’s an opportunity to switch up their gameplay.
For coach Adam Levine, this time around is about coming in with a different perspective, mainly because he feels there’s a real chance to work with a few country singers this season.
Adam Levine Says Blake Shelton “Ruined” Him As A Coach
If you’ve been watching The Voice from the beginning, then you know Adam was one of the show’s original coaches. Sitting beside him was Blake Shelton, who, understandably, was the go-to pick for any country contestant the moment he turned his chair.
It makes sense that most country artists gravitated towards a coach who’s already a superstar in their genre. However, this made it almost impossible for Adam to land a country singer on his team for years.
But this could finally be his moment. With no country coach this season, the door is wide open for anyone to connect with those artists.
The challenge, though, is that Adam isn’t exactly used to fighting for country contestants anymore. After losing them season after season, he pretty much stopped trying. So, shifting his mindset now could take a little adjustment.
If you watched the Season 29 premiere, then you saw one of the first country blind auditions of the night. 14-year-old AJ Robinson absolutely nailed his performance of “Watermelon Moonshine” by Lainey Wilson.
Coach John Legend was the only one to turn his chair, which automatically secured Robinson on his team.

Later, Adam revealed why he didn’t end up turning around, even though he was impressed by AJ’s audition… and it turns out, it’s all Blake Shelton’s fault!
“Blake Shelton has ruined me. He wounded me deep down in my soul,” he said after AJ’s performance.
John also admitted that he was “scarred from many years of trying to get a country artist on my team…not that I’m bitter!”
We’re excited to see if Adam Levine’s Voice dream of snagging a country singer finally comes true this season…
