Fans of the Yellowstone universe have had an eventful week, starting with Paramount’s announcement of the premiere date for the final part of Season 5 of the original series. Now, adding to the excitement, there’s also news about the spinoff, 1923.
The much-anticipated second season of Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 was announced as back on track last month, following delays due to the writers’ strike and various scheduling conflicts. Now that filming has officially resumed, the series announced a new star is set to join the cast alongside Hollywood icons Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Fans can look forward to seeing Jennifer Carpenter as the series’ newest character.
Jennifer Carpenter is recognized for portraying Emily Rose in the horror film The Exorcism of Emily Rose. However, her most notable role is as Debra Morgan, the adoptive sister of the title character in Showtime’s Dexter. She also reprised this role in the sequel miniseries, Dexter: New Blood. Her additional credits include appearances in Limitless, The Enemy Within, and the upcoming miniseries Ballistic.
According to Deadline, she will play a recurring role in the Western as Mamie Fossett, a U.S. Deputy Marshal who is described as “highly capable” and “serves warrants and makes arrests with confidence ahead of her time.”
In addition to Carpenter, the cast will include returning members Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, Brandon Sklenar, Aminah Nieves, Brian Geraghty, Sebastian Roche, Jennifer Ehle, Marley Shelton, Robert Patrick, and others.
The show appears to be undergoing several exciting changes in its second season. Recently, it was revealed that filming will relocate from Montana to Austin, Texas. Season One was filmed at the Butte Civic Center sound stage in Montana but had to move due to delays caused by concurrent strikes from the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA.
Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century America, “1923” explores the challenges faced by a new generation of Duttons amidst Prohibition, drought, and the early stages of the Great Depression.
