Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery Got Their Start On American Idol Together
In 2011, Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery were the finalists on the 10th season of American Idol. Ultimately, McCreery took home the win, but it launched both of their careers.

Very early on, it was clear that the two had on stage chemistry, even joining forces during Hollywood Week. The producers also saw their compatibility and paired them up to perform duets together three times throughout the competition.

The first time they were paired up was for Top 11 night, which was Elton John themed. After each contestant performed an Elton John song, they were paired up for the results show to perform songs of various genres. Lauren and Scotty sang “I Told You So” by Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis, a song the latter two performed on the American Idol stage two years prior.

Since their time on American Idol, both singers have had chart-topping hits, won awards, and have been inducted as members of the Grand Ole Opry. Alaina’s invitation came from Trisha Yearwood in December 2021, while McCreery was asked to join by Garth Brooks in December 2023.
In an Instagram post on December 8, 2025, Lauren Alaina shared a clip from their first duet in 2011, followed by them recreating it in present day. The present day video was just a short clip of them singing in what looks to be a lobby or something! So casual, but so good!
Alongside the video, she wrote, “I’m forever thankful for those two kiddos who chased their dreams, so we can still do what we love today. I can’t believe it’s been fifteen years since our lives changed forever. I’m so grateful to have started it all with this guy.”
American Idol commented, “We are SO thankful for Y’ALL chasing your dreams with US!!!”
